Local projects

We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers for our local projects. We have several interesting projects that you can join or you can also come with an own initiative.

Organising a workcamp: Have you participated in a volunteer workcamp before? Then we could use your experiences and ideas to organise a volunteer camp in the Netherlands with foreign volunteers. Together with the other volunteers you think about the project, contact the potential project partners, outline what you would like to achieve with your project, arrange the practical details, search for a subsidy and lead the project (together with other volunteers). You would need to use your own initiative, but there will be always experienced volunteers around you who could help you.

Curious about what happened in 2020? Here is a list and a short recap of our latest volunteer camps.

  • Summercamp for children in Amsterdam: the camp was organised together with ‘Giving Back’, which is an initiative that supports a large group of Brazilian migrants in Amsterdam. The camp included many activities for children of Brazilian migrants who are living and working in the Netherlands but due to their status they are without residence permit. Their children attend school but they are also not legally registered in the Netherlands and not allowed to participate in summer activities that are being organised for other children in the city and cannot go abroad. Our idea was to organise these children a week full of activities and games, cooking together and with a closing party at the end of the camp.

  • Urban gardening in Amsterdam: in the midst of Amsterdam one can find many green corners and nooks carved out by the people living there, because more and more people become aware that they need nature in their lives. During our camp the participants had the chance to come and have a closer look at two of these gardens, help the people realise some of their projects and take care of the gardens in the summer. During the workcamp participants had the chance to join the weekly work days, preparing a detailed map of the ground, maintain the children’s garden, renovate the sandbox and do some painting. The camp included a visit to other green initiatives in Amsterdam and the discussion about the need for green in cities and how this helps the social structures in the city.

Are you curious about our projects this year? Then visit our Facebook page for workcamps for 2021.

Apart from organising a workcamp, we have also interesting projects helping the smooth running of VIA - for instance in PR! Do you have affinity with PR? Would you like to help spread the word about VIA and SCI? Then this is your place. You could help us boost our website, digital newsletter, social media platforms, etc. When possible VIA also strives to become visible through offline channels, such as bourses, or other events.

Do you have other ideas in mind for a project that could fit with VIA’s vision? Then let us know! We are always open to new ideas and projects and we would love to hear from you.

Interested? Then send us an email to info@stichtingvia.nl!
