20/04/2024 Community Event at the Beach

On Saturday 20th of April, the members of the VIA went to the Beach to pick up trash in honour of Earth Day on the 22nd. The team went to the Strandpaviljoen beach in South Den Haag, and then went to the Strandpaviljoen Zuid café where we enjoyed some Coffee. We then went back into town to grab a bite of Falafel in central Den Haag ! It was such a fun community event and we hope to see you at our next one !!  According to a study conducted by Utrecht Unviersity, data shows that at present, there are between seventeen thousand and thirty thousand kilos of litter on Dutch beaches. “That comes down to an average of 20 to 80 kilos of litter per kilometre of beach,” says Mikael Kaandorp, first author of the Ocean Science publication “Using machine learning and beach cleanup data to explain litter quantities along the Dutch North Sea coast”.

23/02/2024 Wool for Warmth partner event !

We partnered with Wool for Warmth, an NGO based in the Hague who’s mission is to ‘turn wool into warmth’ to combat homelessness. They receive donations of wool and have a team of volunteers who make clothes and accessories for the homeless. Our volunteers at VIA had the chance to learn different sewing techniques such as knitting, crocheting and looming, and we learned about homelessness in the Netherlands.
