As part of the global peace organization Service Civil International (SCI), VIA aims to promote peace, understanding, international solidarity, social justice, sustainable development and respect for the environment.

VIA is working on alternatives on a small scale and hopes to inspire others. We contrast a global culture of self-interest, economization and violence with a more sustainable, tolerant, solidarity-based and non-violent coexistence.

We want to pay more attention to conflicts between groups within the Dutch society and make a strong contribution to a good coexistence. For this to achieve we are not only sending and receiving volunteers, but we also experiment with local activities that bring different people together. In line with the activities of SCI international, we are actively engaging in peace education, through international seminars. We find it important that our volunteers also feel that they are part of a peace organization. We want to draw attention to issues of war and peace and in that context strengthen our cooperation with other organizations.
